Draw-to-cast runes
Trace a glyph on screen and it becomes a live spell. Precision, speed, and shape all change the outcome.
PowerRuneJournal is a hand-drawn RPG where every spell you cast is a rune you draw yourself. Keep an enchanted journal, decode forgotten glyphs, and carve a path through the Ashen Wilds.
Free to play · No ads mid-battle

Since launch, more than 240,000 players have filled their journals across 40 chapters. No stamina timers, no pay-to-win — just you, your ink, and a slow-burning mystery that unfolds one glyph at a time.
We are a two-person studio based in Surry Hills, Sydney. PowerRuneJournal grew out of a hand-bound sketchbook of invented alphabets — we wanted a game where drawing a symbol actually meant something. Every rune you inscribe is stored in your journal and can be recombined into new spells.
There are no loot boxes and no energy meters. Progress comes from understanding the language of the Ashen Wilds: how glyphs bind, how ink reacts to weather, and which forgotten scribes left notes in the margins. Play for five minutes on the train or lose an afternoon to a single puzzle chapter.

Six systems work together so your journal becomes a record of how you play — not a checklist of chores.

I have never highlighted a mobile game before, but I keep screenshotting my journal pages. Drawing the runes actually makes me feel clever.
No timers, no ads shoved in my face during a fight. I play three chapters on the train to Central and it respects my time.
The weather-reactive ink got me. I replayed a whole chapter in the frost season just to see how my spells changed.
Bought the Lifetime Grimoire on day two. Rare to find an Aussie indie that ships updates this consistently.
